Dear CES Parent,

This letter is to inform you of our requirement with Texas Education Commission in regards to Physical Education (PE).

TEA states, “The TEC §28.002(l) requires students enrolled in full-day prekindergarten, in kindergarten, or in a grade level below grade six to participate in moderate or vigorous daily physical activity for at least 30 minutes throughout the school year as part of the district's physical education curriculum or through structured activity during a school campus's daily recess. To the extent practicable, a school district shall require a student enrolled in prekindergarten on less than a full-day basis to participate in the same type and amount of physical activity as a student enrolled in full-day prekindergarten.

If a school district determines, for any particular grade level below grade six, that requiring moderate or vigorous daily physical activity is impractical due to scheduling concerns or other factors, the district may as an alternative require a student in that grade level to participate in moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least 135 minutes during each school week.”

(T. (n.d.). Physical Education (PE) and Physical Activity (PA) Frequently Asked Questions. Retrieved March 9, 2021, from https://tea.texas.gov/sites/default/files/PE%20FAQ%20Draft%202-26-2015.pdf)

In order for a child to meet the requirements of PE, they must wear appropriate clothing and shoes.  Your child has failed to  ______________________  for ______________days.  Please encourage your child to bring their appropriate things to PE class each time they are present.  A schedule of PE days should be posted on their teacher’s webpage or may be acquired by contacting your child’s teacher.  Their grade may be affected if they continue to not participate in PE.

We appreciate your encouragement in this matter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the CES office at 903-737-2820.

Respectfully,

Leatha Boehlar
